Mental Health in Henderson, Nevada

Situated in the Mojave Desert, Henderson is Nevada’s second-largest city and a close neighbor to Las Vegas and the Hoover Dam with 290,000 people calling it home. Known for its sunshine, this family-friendly area has some of the best award-winning parks and recreation within the valley. The city is also considered one of the safest as Henderson was recognized by Forbes magazine as the 2nd safest city in America and Money magazine has placed Henderson on the “Best Places to Live in America” list three times. From low crime and a cost of living that is 4% below the national average, Henderson has increased in popularity in the last decade as a place to live, work, play, and retire.

One repeating issue in Henderson is the poor medical care as there are many treatment facilities but a shortage of doctors. The state is ranked 49th in the United States for physicians per capita resulting in low doctor-to-patient ratios with only 180 doctors per 100,000 people. Critics blame the low medical reimbursement rate on several factors such as population growth, an underfunded residency program, an increase in an insured population due to the Affordable Care Act plus a lack of graduate medical education. This does not bode well for the nationwide doctor shortage predicted to be at 100,000 by 2030. While the state is trying to bring change to this problem, this is an issue that the state continues to struggle with yearly.

Every mental health issue deserves special attention and an appropriate treatment approach to your specific problem and situation. If you or a loved one is showing signs of mental illness, the first step is receiving help. Therapy empowers you to locate and work through what is in the way of being your best self and finding peace. Make sure that you receive adequate care for your mental health as mental health issues are complex. Your journey of healing and wholeness will take time as it is unique to you. When starting your research for a meaningful counseling relationship, take time to reflect on the issues and symptoms that are bothering you. Whether you suffer from grief or an eating disorder, this exercise will help guide you in your therapy research. With our caring community of Henderson therapists, together we can help you discover a solution. Spend time researching our site and looking at the variety of practitioners’ bios and blogs to learn more about each therapist, their skill set, and style. While you navigate through our website, consider the following questions:

  • Why am I seeking help?
  • What are my goals in therapy?
  • Am I more comfortable with a man or a woman?
  • Are there any personal aspects I’m not willing to discuss?
  • Do I want to be able to lead the discussion, or have it led?
  • How long do I plan to attend therapy?
  • Does my problem need extra specialization?

These questions along with your list will help you during your time in finding the person who will provide you with the resources you need for mental health wellness.
