Overview of Mental Health Resources in Inglewood, California

Inglewood, California has a population of approximately 109,673 residents and is located in the southwestern portion of Los Angeles County. As a part of the South Bay region, the city is central to the major freeways as well as Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Long known as a major sporting center, the city has been home to the Hollywood Park Racetrack, the Forum where the storied NBA franchise Los Angeles Lakers played, and will soon be home to Los Angeles Stadium which will be the field of two NFL teams- the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers. Although the city has had success in procuring such high-quality facilities, the statistics related to its residents tell a different story. According to some estimates, 22.4% of Inglewood’s population is living below the federal poverty line. Stressors such as economic uncertainty and hardship are known to directly impact the mental health of individuals. In a study carried out by Los Angeles County, 7% of adults (aged 18 years and older) residing in Inglewood have been diagnosed with depression.

Improving Access to Care

Mental health is a concern not only in Inglewood but statewide. Nearly 1 in 6 adults in the state of California need assistance with mental health issues. This is an important trend to address because if not treated properly, these conditions can develop into more severe, and adverse outcomes.

Many contributing factors impact a person’s emotional well-being but having access to care that helps individuals deal with mental illness is essential. We cannot always control the circumstances of our lives such as work demands and family responsibilities, but we can learn tools that help us manage these stressors.

If you are experiencing depression, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress, you may be considering finding help. We can help you in your search for the right Inglewood mental health professional or therapist. We aim to connect you with the resources you need when you need them.

Choosing to seek out additional assistance is not always an easy decision, but when you feel ready to take that step, we can help make the process as easy as possible and give you tips on how to start. Looking for a mental health professional first begins with thinking about your unique needs and wants.

Starting Your Search

We highly suggest you take a few moments to take an inventory of what you need from the process before diving into the directories of mental health professionals. With some key questions in mind, you can discover which type of treatment you are best suited for. If you can communicate why you are seeking treatment and what outcomes you are looking for, it may also help when it comes time to describe your circumstances to potential counselors you might work with. Here are some of the questions you can begin with:

  • What are you experiencing in your life that has prompted you to seek out help from a professional?
  • Why do you think now is the right time to begin this journey?
  • What outcomes are you hoping to get from going to therapy and working with a mental health professional?
  • Are you more comfortable speaking with a man or a woman about your problems and how big of a factor does gender play in choosing a therapist?
  • What timeframe are you willing to commit to meeting with a therapist?
  • Do you have the support of friends or family in this endeavor?
  • Would you benefit from working with a mental health professional who specializes in your area of concern?

Being able to answer the above questions will go a long way toward being able to convey your story to potential therapists and find the right fit for you. Finding someone with whom you can communicate is an important part of the process.

Health Insurance Considerations

For many people, the cost of therapy or other mental health services can be a limiting factor. For this reason, we suggest you reach out to your health insurance provider and find out your options when it comes to what services they will cover. You may find they have their network of preferred professionals available to you at a much lower out-of-pocket cost. This can save quite a lot of money and ensure you can afford these services when you need them.
