Located in western New York on the southern shore of Lake Ontario, Rochester is home to over 208,000 residents. While the area receives an estimated 90 inches of snow each year, the summers are considered glorious and not too hot. Employment in the city was focused on printing, film and medical products/services but now it is health systems, supermarkets, and higher education. A few of the top employers include the University of Rochester, Rochester Regional Health, and Wegmans Food Markets Inc. in which 10,000 or more residents are employed. Rochester is also home to the largest number of American Sign Language (ASL) users with an estimated deaf population of 10,000-15,000 people. For decades, the residents of Rochester have opted to live in the suburbs and commute into the city but now, there is a resurgence of developers to bring people back into Rochester to live, work, and play.
