Deanne Gruenberg

I am a counselor (LPC-S) and LPC supervisor in Michigan and have been in private practice for the past 27 years. Adults and children alike are experiencing stress now more than ever. Relationships are being tested like never before. Helping clients discover the tools they need to feel stronger and calmer has become my mission.

While I enjoy working with all ages, I specialize in treating children (preschool age and up), adolescents and young adults who have experienced anxiety, relationship issues, divorce, grief and traumatic loss. I also have expertise in assisting clients with parenting issues. Young children communicate best through the natural medium of play. Parents are enjoying our Telehealth sessions to learn "play therapy strategies" for bonding with their children. I have received additional training in play therapy and am currently certified as a registered play therapist supervisor, RPT-S.

My approach is diverse, as I incorporate a variety of therapeutic principles in order to customize therapy to each unique individual's needs. For example, I’ll use cognitive-behavioral therapy or dialectical behavior therapy to help clients overcome anxiety and depression. I use play therapy (toys, books, puppets, sand tray, etc.) to help children communicate their conflicts and emotions

I have been a contributing author in four child therapy books (A fifth is currently in publication). I am the former owner of the Self Esteem Shop, a mental health bookstore that my husband and I operated for 26 years.

As part of my commitment to clients, I have switched to Telehealth (similar to FaceTime) services to stay connected and maintain a relationship during these challenging times. There is no need to download anything. Using a computer or tablet is preferable because these devices can be set on a table, however phone sessions are also an option. At the time of the scheduled appointment clients just click on my telehealth link and find themselves in my virtual waiting room.
