About Me

Welcome and thank you for your interest in learning more about my practice. I believe in continuous improvement and growth personally and as a therapist. I love to learn, grow, and know about things (see below, I am always in trainings!). I love incorporating current neuroscience research alongside with energy work and attention to the transpersonal or spiritual side of life. I often discuss research and theories with clients so that they understand the reasons for taking different approaches to therapy, and so they can choose how they want to work.

In terms of specializations, my passion and most of my experience has been working with people who are experiencing stress following a difficult event or events. This includes PTSD, complex trauma, vicarious and secondary trauma or stress. Complex trauma results generally from repeated exposure to traumatic events over a period of time, particularly in childhood. Secondary and vicarious trauma are often experienced by professionals (therapists, first responders, doctors, nurses, lawyers, social workers, etc) and family members who have played a supporting role for someone who experienced trauma. These roles can result in their own kinds of stressors and responses. In addition, I also have experience and expertise working with anxiety, mood disorders, life transitions, relationship issues, and loss.

I am sensitive to the parts of our selves that make us unique, which includes different expressions of gender, sexuality, culture, socio-economic status, ethnicity, race, political ideology, religion, LGBTQIA+ identity, and intersectionality. I use mindfulness, my own therapy and consultation to help me address bias that might come up in my work. I partner with clients with an orientation towards social justice, honoring difference and our own deep knowledge of ourselves and our needs.

Prior to becoming a therapist, I had a career in administration and worked in a number of diverse cultural environments, including an international conflict transformation program, in near eastern languages and literature departments (as a student and administrator), with a large international NGO, and in two locally-based immigration services centers. I interned in a couple of different countries (in the Middle East and Asia) and am comfortable working cross-culturally.
