About Me

I have a Master’s degree in Counseling and Human Development from Troy State University, a Master’s degree in Industrial / Organizational Psychology from Capella University and a Post Masters certificate in Clinical Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. I hold certifications as a Board Certified Licensed Professional, Board Certified Telehealth, Master Addiction Counselor, Relationship Specialist, Domestic Violence Counselor, and qualified as a Substance Abuse Professional.

I hold licenses in a variety of states to include Virginia as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC); the District of Columbia as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT); Michigan as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

For over 30 years I have worked with the military community as a civil servant for the Department of Defense (DoD). I have vast counseling experiences working with families, individuals and couples providing wide range of evidenced based services.

For me psychotherapy has both benefits and risks. Risks may include experiencing uncomfortable feelings, such as sadness, guilt, anxiety, anger, frustration, loneliness and helplessness, because the process of psychotherapy often requires discussing the unpleasant aspects of your life. However, psychotherapy has been shown to have benefits for individuals who undertake it. Therapy often leads to a significant reduction in feelings of distress, increased satisfaction in interpersonal relationships, greater personal awareness and insight, increased skills for managing stress and resolutions to specific problems.
